DESCRIPTION

During this interactive presentation, you will learn the state legal and regulatory framework for privacy and cybersecurity upon which clients are increasingly basing their requirements of outside counsel. Meeting these requirements can mean increases in business. Join us as we will discuss these topics:

  • An eye-opening discussion of how clients increasingly expect their firms to meet privacy and cybersecurity standards of the laws of various US states, including New York and California, and of Non-U.S. laws and regulations such as the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Data Act (PIPEDA), and why law firms may be subject to those laws and regulations.
  • How and in what respects law firms are subject to state privacy and cybersecurity laws and regulations of a growing list of states; including New York (SHIELD Act) and California (CCPA).
  • Where to start? The map of the firm’s data and security risk analysis and data.
  • How to leverage existing security controls to meet these requirements in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Client acquisition and retention. What do you need to do to make sure you meet the client’s standards for outside counsel?
  • Keeping the controls current; annual security assessments, penetration testing and vulnerability assessment.
  • Analysis of the firm’s cyber risk and privacy liability insurance coverage.
  • Documentation of security and privacy policies, procedures and training for attorneys and staff.
  • Security incident response protocol and training.

Cocktails and canapés will be available following the presentation.
