Be Present
and Enjoy
the Moment

Tom and Jim

The holiday season is a good time to pause, take a step back, and enjoy the moment. So much has happened in the world in the last two years, that it is easy to let the news and phone notifications distract us from what’s important. In most cases, news and phone alerts are not what is important. What is important is our family and our friends and being present when we are with them. Being present meaning, paying attention to what our family and friends are doing and saying. Focusing on them and not the world’s distractions.

We are surrounded by too many forms of interruptions. We need to pause and remember that our time and attention is important, it is precious, and it is limited. We have about 16 hours a day to give our attention to our family, friends, work, and personal interests. Sixteen hours a day is not a lot of time. Think about all the important things you did not do yesterday (Did you call your mom? Did you play with your child? Did you go for a walk?), then consider where you spent your time. Was it on trivial distractions?

There is a good saying, “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That’s why we call it ‘The Present’.”

This Holiday season, turn off the TV, turn off your phone notifications. Be present and enjoy the moment.
